Liu Yongfu, Director of the State Council Poverty Alleviation Office, inspected work on poverty alleviation in Sichuan Province. Director Liu and other officials visited the museum and former residence of Deng Xiaoping, inspected Gaochao Village in Guang’an District and Boshan village in Nanjiang County, and listened to reports on poverty alleviation in Sichuan Province. Director Liu said that the Office will continue to give full support to Sichuan Province to help it improve its poverty alleviation work.

     More than 600,000 people have been lifted out of poverty in Ningde, Fujian Province. The number of people living under the poverty line has been reduced from 770,000 in the late 1980s to 145,000 now (from 37.8% to under 5% ).

    Sichuan Poverty Alleviation and Immigration Administration: Integrate poverty alleviation into the construction of new villages to further promote targeted poverty alleviation measures. By carrying out the New Village Construction and Poverty Alleviation Project, the administration aims to build 192 new villages, covering 17,000 households for the Yi ethnic group, 13, 200 new houses for Tibetan people, 321 Bashan New Houses and 334 poverty-alleviation villages, which include 25,000 low-rent houses. In total, over 1.09 million people are expected to be lifted out of poverty in 2015.

The “One District, Two Towns” pilot plan on assisting impoverished families has been initiated in Tianjin. Residents from low-income families and female workers in Xianshuigu and Shuanggang of Jinnan District will benefit from the plan. Eligible patients will receive free medical treatment from Tianjin No. 464 Hospital.

Jiangjin District, Chongqing will invest 29 million yuan this year to improve the nutritional state of students. Students from impoverished families covered by subsistence allowances, from entitled groups and orphans who are in compulsory education phase will receive lunch subsidy worth 3 yuan every day. Besides, all primary school students in the district can receive a box of milk for free  every day.

Public Poverty Alleviation and Charity News：

    Officers and soldiers from a reserve division in Jiangxi Province visited Longcun Primary School in Dalong Village, Chongxian Township, Xingguo County to donate money to students from impoverished families. Since Dalong village is located in remote mountain area, most students there are from poor families, and the school facilities are very shabby. The division established a “Love-caring Student Aid” Special Office, and assigned staff to carry out investigation in the school to ensure that excellent students from poor families can receive aids. The division donated 70,000 yuan to 40 students and supplied teaching materials such as books, schoolbags and desks worth 50,000 yuan on the same day.

Henan Electric Power Company of the State Grid plans to invest 10 billion yuan to the construction of rural power grid. More investment will be made to 53 poverty-stricken counties to enhance their power supply capacity, so as to gradually narrow the gap between rural and urban areas.
